wichita

Hello kind friends! I'm ba-ack..and I'm feeling good. Bri and I had a quick blitz visit to Utah to see our families and then we took a long road trip down to Wichita. We got to visit with our friends the Lindseys on the way. We met up with them in a sweet cabin in Colorado in the middle of nowhere. It was really awesome and I'm kicking myself for not taking pictures of the cool cabin and our cool friends. It was truly lovely seeing them.

Now we're living it up in a hotel in Wichita for a couple of weeks while I work on a production of Die Fledermaus. I've been loving it. While learning the role I was a bit skeptical--I wasn't necessarily drawn to the music and/or the over-all message of the opera (aka "blame it on the alcohol") was not not my favorite of opera-stories. However, I am really starting to fall for the charming and whimsical notions the piece has to offer. Stagings are always a challenge at first, but I'm excited to see where they will go.
My costumes are nice and that's always more important to me than it should be...I'm happy:)

Bri and I have been able to see a little bit of the city. It's surprisingly really cool and kind of artsy with a historic downtown full of little antique, candy, and coffee shops. We even found a ghetto flicks close to our hotel, which we are digging ( of course ). If I can pay $1 for a movie rather than  $10 I'm a happy lady.

Bri's been working at the library while I've been rehearsing, but I caught him playing chess with some of the locals the other day. While at the library, I put my head down to rest my tired eyes and I got chastised by the security guard telling me "sleeping is not allowed...consider this a warning..." They must have trouble with the homeless people camping out there. I felt weird getting in trouble for closing my eyes.

Downtown Wichita kind of reminds me of Austin. We'll try to keep you updated on our fun here and showcase some of the finer places of Wichita...or the places we deem "cool"...incase you find yourself here one day.

  1. MJ -- Hooray!! My computer hasn't been letting me post on your blogs for like the past month. I feel delighted that it is suddenly working again. My kids can't stop talking about how much fun Aunt Mary-Jane and Uncle Brian are. They can't wait until you come back in May, and frankly, neither can I.
